During the weekend of June 23-24, Camp Anderson, just outside of Tyrone, will be host of a Civil War weekend held at the Camp. This is the first time an event of this type will be held at Camp Anderson.
There will be five Civil War reenactor groups spending the weekend at Camp Anderson. Throughout the day on Saturday, the general public is invited to a number of events that the reenactors will be demonstrating.
Saturday morning from 8:30 to 11:30, the reenactors will be holding an artillery demonstration, infantry drill instruction, and demonstrate candle and lantern making.
From 1-3 p.m., reenactors will be demonstrating what Military camp life and civilian camp life, a Military Hospital, and a Military Court Martial was like during this time period in our Countries history.
At 3 p.m., an Infantry drill down competition will be held. Also, at 4 p.m., reenactors will demonstrate a skirmish between Union and Confederate Forces. There will also be an artillery night fire from 9-10 p.m.
For those unfamiliar with Camp Anderson’s location, drive past American Eagle Paper Mill and follow that road until you reach VanScoyc Hollow Road on your left. If you are coming from the Bald Eagle Intersection at the Interstate 99 exit, turn left and you will eventually see VanScoyc Hollow Road on your right. Turn onto VanScoyc Hollow Road, when following this roadway, you will eventually see the camp on your left.
