Norfolk Southern will close the grade crossing on Tipton Road (State Route 4023) on Wednesday, September 25, in order to make repairs to a second set of rails on the railroad mainline through this northern Blair County community.
The one-day closing is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. Wednesday, with completion of the work anticipated for 5 p.m. that same day.
The road closure will enable railroad workers to perform routine maintenance on one of the mainline tracks. Closing the crossing is necessary because part of the work requires removal of the highway pavement and roadbed between the tracks at the crossing.
During the closure, traffic from the west side of the tracks will be detoured over SR 4025 through Grazierville and then SR 4027 (Old Route 220) to Tipton. From the east side, traffic will be rerouted the reverse, utilizing Old Route 220 (SR 4027) and SR 4025.
According to PennDOT’s District 9, this is the same detour that was used last week when the crossing was closed for railroad workers to make repairs to the other mainline track.
Motorists are advised to allow some extra time in their travels and to drive the detour route with caution.
