Member teams traveled to Mount Union to play in the Central Pennsylvania High School Golf Association Coaches Invitational on Monday at the American Legion Country Club.
Both area golf teams journeyed to Mount Union with Tyrone coming home the champion and Bellwood-Antis finishing 13th in front of Bishop Guilfoyle and Philipsburg-Osceola, who tied for last with totals of 38.
The Stabelford scoring system was used. An eagle was worth eight points, a birdie worth four points. Pars were worth two points each and bogies netted one point.
For the uninformed, an eagle is two strokes less than par, a birdie is one stroke less than par and a bogie is one more than par. Par is the number of strokes set for you by experts to finish the hole, although many golfers would argue a few stroke or two should be added to most holes to equal par.
Tyrone ran away from the competition finishing with 103 points. Indian Valley was second with 86, Huntingdon third with 83, Mount Union and Altoona posted 69s, and Tussey Mountain finished out the top five in the fifth position with 68.
Matt Germino led the Golden Eagles of coach Jim Gillam with 37 points and Jimmy Gillam finished with 35. The top duo defeating every other team by themselves except for Indian Valley and Huntingdon. Thad Westley chipped in another 31 points and Brandon Hribik provided 18 for the victorious Eagles. Germino’s 37 points were the most compiled by anyone in the CPHSGA Invitational.
