In just seven short days, the Tyrone Hospital Development Council will illuminate the Tree of Light in the lobby of the Tyrone Hospital.
“The Tree of Light is an opportunity for the community and the hospital to connect during a season when we are all remembering loved ones and celebrating life,” said Randy Miles Sr., chairman of THDC. “The event gives people an opportunity to express their sentiment and at the same time, help others by supporting the Tyrone Hospital. The event has definitely grown since it was launched last year, based on the participation and contributions from a variety of businesses, organizations and individuals.”
The ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Monday. Everyone is encouraged to attend.
According to Theresa Yanchetz, marketing director at Tyrone Hospital, the ceremony will open with comments from Judith Norris, president of the hospital’s board of directors; Thomas Bartlett, chief executive officer; and Miles.
Following the comments, Pastor Terryann Talbot Moses, president of the Tyrone Area Cooperative Ministries, will deliver a spiritual message and bless the trees.
Vocal selections will be provided by the St. Matthew’s School Choir led by choral director Karen Mayhew.
The ceremony concludes when Pastor Talbot-Moses signals for the lighting of the exterior tree.
“Everyone is welcome to attend a reception immediately following the light ceremony,” said Yanchetz. “The reception will be held in the main lobby of the hospital. Refreshments will be provided.”
For months, members of THDC have been asking community businesses and individuals to help with the cause. Numerous businesses have established donation boxes in their offices, sponsored “dress down days,” or other events that help raise funds. Individuals have had and will continue to have the opportunity to purchase paper angels that will highlight a name of a loved one or other individual. These angels will be placed on the Tree of Light.
All funds raised will be used to assist Tyrone Hospital with the expenses associated with the installation and purchase of a new CT scanner.
Individuals wishing to purchase a gift of light may do so by submitting their donation and a completed “Tree of Light” gift form to the Development Council office at Tyrone Hospital. Tree of Light gift forms are available in the lobby of the hospital and the following businesses: Kelly Wike-State Farm Insurance, OIP Restaurant and Tyrone Medical Associates. The deadline is Dec. 31.
According to Yanchetz, an exact amount of funds raised to this point is not available because there is a variety of businesses and individuals helping to sell angels.
“However, Mr. Miles said it does appear donations will exceed last year’s figure of $2,200,” said Yanchetz.
“(The ceremony) is a wonderful tradition to share with family and friends,” said Miles. “The sound of heavenly voices in the still of the evening, as we publicly gather to honor, remember and recognize others make this a truly ‘special’ event.”
