Tyrone Legion wasted a leadoff triple by Josh Clark and surrendered three runs in the bottom of the first inning, during which Tyrone committed five errors, in a 3-0 loss to Juniata VFW at Juniata.
Wes Plummer allowed only one more hit, a Brock Anders single, which was followed by a walk to Aaron Cunningham, but Plummer struck out Tom Sims and retired losing pitcher Randy Hoover on a lineout to escape the jam.
Hoover pitched six strong innings, allowing only one earned run and five hits.
“Randy pitched another really strong game, but I think a mix of the heat and playing for the seventh straight day was too much for us,” Tyrone Legion manager Mike Boytim said. “We just have to get through the ReMax game and concentrate on picking up a few wins that last week of the season.”
Despite losing the game, Tyrone defeated Juniata VFW in the season series, 2-1, thus earning a tie-breaker advantage should the teams finish with the same record.
Plummer pitched five and 2/3 innings and Anthony Kuny completed the shutout for Juniata VFW.
Josh Weyandt led Juniata VFW on offense with two hits, including a double.
Tyrone will host ReMax Realty today, at the Harry K. Sickler Athletic Park, capping off an eight-day stretch of consecutive games.
