The Tyrone Junior High boys basketball team opened their season Friday by hosting Hollidaysburg. The Baby Eagles came away on the short end of a 48-29 score.
Tyrone was able to hang with the Tigers for almost two quarters before Hollidaysburg made a spurt in the final two minutes before halftime to push their lead to 30-17 at the end of two quarters.
The Tigers used a relentless defensive effort that pressured the Eagles and pushed their advantage to 44-25 at the end of three quarters.
Tyrone was led by Adam Shaffer and Doug Morrow with eight points each.
“We scouted them last week, so we knew we were up against a wall,” stated coach Jim Domenick. “They have so much speed at the guard position, and go five players deep into their bench. But our kids never quit, never stopped playing with intensity.”
The Tyrone eighth graders also dropped their first game, 26-5 to Hollidaysburg’s eight graders. Tyler Golden’s three points and Josh Bradley’s two points accounted for all the scoring.
