Tyrone sophomore Terry Tate decisioned Frank Cremonese of Greater Latrobe 8-6 to claim the heavyweight title at the King of the Mountain Tournament at Thomas Field House on the campus of Lock Haven University.
The tournament is sponsored by Central Mountain High School and was previuosly held at Central Mountain High School in Mill Hall. This year, the tournament was increased to 32 teams, both Double-A and Triple-A and moved to Lock Haven University. The original tournament combined the former Lock Haven Classic held at Lock Haven High School and the Bald Eagle Nittany Invitational held at BEN High School in Mill Hall when the schools combined to form Central Mountain.
Tate’s teammates Thad Westley placed fifth at 125, with a 12-1 major decision over Hadfield of Octorara, David Miller was fourth at 135 after losing by fall to Sawyer of Penns Valley and Brice Mertiff finished seventh defeating Galloway of McGuffey by fall in overtime.
Tyrone finished 12th of 32 teams in the team race with 97.5 points. Forest Hills won the tournament with 183 points host Central Mountain was second with 176.5 points and two champs and a pair of seconds and Altoona was 10th with one champ and second place finish.
