Tuesday at the Tyrone Area High School gym, the Little Golden Eagles junior high school basketball squad hosted an afternoon game against the Bellefonte junior high. The result was a tooth-and-nail struggle that ended with the Eagles oulling out a 43-42 victory.
Tyrone led at the half 22-16, but the Little Raiders never quit, even taking a 42-39 lead late in the fourth quarter. From there, the Tyrone defense stiffened and the Little Eagles scored on a Doug Morrow layup with :58 left to play to take a 43-42 lead. Bellefonte had a couple more opportunities, but a steal by tyrone’s Adam Shaffer with :08 sealed the Eagles’ sixth straight win.
Doug Morrow led the scoring attack for Tyrone with 16 points and Jim Gillam added 10.
Denny Glunt fronted Bellefonte with 17 points, including five treys.
“With the Holidaysand the bad weather, we’ve only been able to practice twice in the last nine days, and it showed today,” exdplained Tyrone coach Jim Domenick. “We have to get back on track, as today’e game started a streak of four games in a seven day stretch for us.”
Tyrone is back in action on Thursday with a trip to Lewistown, Game time has been moved up to 3:30 p.m.
