February 4, 1903
• A wind storm hit the Tyrone area, doing considerable damage. The roof was torn from the tailor shop of Axel Kalstrom near the Pennsylvania Avenue bridge over the Juniata River. Also, the roof was partly demolished on the North Star tannery near the same location. Bark piles were blown over.
February 4, 1953
• J. Lynne Ferner, manager of the Tyrone and Williamsburg plants of the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company and president of borough council, was elected president of the Tyrone Borough School District Authority.
• The Tyrone Clubmen’s Association proposed to the Tyrone Borough council the creation by resolution or ordinance of a Tyrone Centennial Commission for the 100th Anniversary of the incorporation of Tyrone as a borough in August 1957.
• In sports, the Tyrone Clowns won their fifth straight contest last night at the YMCA when they pulled an upset 64-51 victory over the Altoona Merchants, one of the top independent basketball teams in Altoona.
February 4, 1983
• Members of the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce had a sweet treat added to their February breakfast meeting, a tour of the Gardner Candies’ plant at Bald Eagle.
• Violence from the nationwide strike by independent truckers spread into the Tyrone area as three separate incidents were reported, two involving the same rig. The southbound lane of Old Route 220 was blocked near Ames last night as vandals disconnected the fifth wheel of a rig.
• Bellwood-Antis High School Wrestlers tightened up their grip on the top spot in the Tri-County Wrestling Conference last night as six Blue Devils engineered falls to power coach Darrell Claar’s team to a 44-17 victory over Penn Cambria.
February 4, 1993
• The American Red Cross Bloodmobile visited Tyrone Area High School yesterday, sponsored by the Key Club, which netted 103 pints of blood.
• Lieutenant Governor Mark Singel gave an enthusiastic report on the rising economy within the Huntingdon and Blair Counties during his appearance in Huntingdon on Wednesday evening.
• Tyrone wrestlers Mike Dutrow and Rob Campbell nabbed individual titles to front the Golden Eagles’ effort to win the team championship at the Somerset Golden Eagle Classic.
