• Joseph J. Dowling and Myra Davis, stars of the English and American stage, starred in “The Two Sisters” at the Academy of Music.
• Temperatures remained around the zero mark as high winds again caused damage. This has been the longest cold spell that Tyrone has experienced in years.
February 18, 1953
• Miss Dorothy Crawford of the Tyrone High School faculty was the speaker at the meeting of the auxiliary unit to Howard Gardner Post 281 American Legion last evening. Miss Crawford spoke of “Americanism”, stressing the fact that the American way of life is on trial.
• “The Heiress” written by Ruth and Augustus Goetz and based on the famous novel Washington Square was presented at the YMCA last night by the Tyrone Players under the direction of David Bennett.
• In sports, Bill Thomas was the top scorer on the Tyrone High School wrestling team. The strong 165 pounder scored 55 points in 10 meets out of a possible 60 points. Thomas was the only undefeated active wrestler on the team.
February 18, 1983
• M. Christopher Smith was elected Exalted Ruler of Tyrone Lodge 212 Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks for 1982-83 during a meeting held at the home lodge conducted by Exalted Ruler Norman Tubo.
• The jobless rate in Pennsylvania climbed to 12.2 percent during the last three months of 1982, with more than 650,000 people looking for work.
• In sports, the Golden Eagles crunched Penns Valley 42-12 for its twelfth win on the mats. Coach Tony Yaniello’s team carved itself a niche in the school’s record book as the first team to record twelve dual meet wins in a season.
February 18, 1993
• A variety of items with a retail value of over $4000 was prepared for the auction on Saturday in Tyrone over the local radio station WTRN. The event is the annual fundraiser for the Tyrone Area Community Organization.
• Blair County did not receive any state/county funding for the gypsy moth suppression spray program on private lands according to a report from the Blair County Conservation District. This was the first time for no funding since the early 1980s.
• In sports, the Bellwood-Antis Blue Devils added another number in the win column as they edged the Bulldogs of Claysburg-Kimmel 78-75. Junior point guard Aaron Abbott added 31 points to help with the win.
