Tyrone sophomore Terry Tate opened his quest for a PIAA State Championship when he scored a 6-3 victory over Corey Gipe (27-7) of Schuylkill Haven. With the victory, Tate advances to the quarterfinals where he will meet Chris Snyder (32-1) of Milton. Snyder advanced to the quarterfinals by pinning Larry James of Milton Hershey in 1:20.
Thad Westley’s season ended on the mats of the Giant Center at Hershey yesterday. The Tyrone junior opened with a 4-2 loss to Zac Weldon of Wyalusing in the opening round. In the opening round of the consolation bracket, Westley dropped a 5-0 decision to Tom Brambley of Everett. With the losses yesterday, Westley finishes his season 38-10.
