The Antis Township Supervisors Thursday unanimously voted to award the bid for the River Road Bridge replacement project to Cottles Asphalt Inc. at a price of $37,977.47.
Cottles Asphalt Inc. provided the township with the lowest price. Four other bids were rejected, including those from: D.C. Ventrie, $90,082.05; D.A.C. Enterprises, $62, 880.95; Gordon L. Delozier, $69,707; and H.R.I., $77,315.
According to Vice-Chairman Supervisor Ray Amato, the work will take no more than two weeks to complete but could be finished in less than a week.
“This isn’t a very big project at all,” said Amato. “We’re hoping to get it started as soon as school lets out.”
Also Thursday, supervisors discussed the rash of sign stealing and illegal dumping within the township.
Bob Srock, a township employee, said thousands of dollars worth of different types of signs – most notably “911” signs – have been stolen.
“They’re being torn down as fast as we’re putting them up,” said Srock.
Amato also touched on areas of the township where illegal dumping seems most prevalent. He said he knows who two of the people are who are responsible for the dumping, but doesn’t have any concrete evidence to implement the individuals.
Township officials discussed using a motion-sensitive camera to hopefully capture an image of the perpetrators. The board has also discussed offering monetary rewards to individuals supplying information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the illegal dumping. Both possible solutions will be looked into in the near future.
