The Tyrone Regional Arts Council announces its nineteenth season of free summer concerts. The expanded series includes fourteen concerts from June through August in three locations throughout the Borough.
The concerts begin in June with the “Afternoon Delights” series located in the City Hotel Park at Pennsylvania Avenue and 10th Street. The park features a wrap-around covered porch with rocking chairs and a garden area with benches for seating. Concerts are held each Wednesday at noon. In the event of heavy rain the concerts will be held in Joybean’s Coffee Shop on 10th Street.
The featured performers are: June 11, McClellan (Contemporary and Inspirational); June 18, Dennie Huber Music & Magic; June 25, Schell Run Band (Bluegrass & Country) and July 2, The Servello Family (Family Fun & Patriotic).
The “Intown Tuesdays” series features three performances in the Epworth Manor Auditorium (on Washington Avenue) beginning at 6:30. The air conditioned space allows for Epworth residents as well as visitors to enjoy the entertainment in comfort.
The featured performers are: July 15, Revel Straight from Australia (60s to Present: Sing-A-Long); July 29, Dennie Huber More Music & Magic and Aug 12 The Conrad Brothers (Country & Bluegrass).
The main series, “Summer Sundays”, is held at the scenic Reservoir Park Amphitheater at 6:00. The amphitheater is framed by tall trees and bordered by two streams. In addition, the newly installed playground areas are within view of the stage allowing for families to use the equipment and still enjoy the concert. In the event of rain the concerts are held in St. Matthew Hall, Cameron Avenue and 12th Street.
The featured performers are: July 6, Mike Swaverly & the Chrome Magnatones (Rockabilly: High Powered Blend of Rock & Country); July 13, Rustical Quality String Band (Honky-Tonk, Swing, Irish & Country); July 20, Les Shaw’s Big Band Sound; July 27, Zupe (Big Band, Broadway, Oldies & Country); Aug 3, Altoona VFW Post 3 Band (Patriotic Military Band) and Aug 10, Clayton Hoover & the Western Band (Old-Time Country).
The final summer program is the annual “Organ and Voice Concert” on August 17at the Lutheran Church on Logan Avenue. A perennial favorite, this concert features the best in local talent as organist Joan Smith and vocalists from the Allegheny Chorale perform a varied program beginning at 7:30.
The summer concert series is supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of PA, the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, Tyrone Borough, and the Tyrone School District’s Employee Charity Fund. All concert are free of charge.
