The women’s Auxiliary of Anderson Denny Post #4559 VFW has scheduled a trash and treasure sale inside the Tyrone VFW on 125 East 10th St. tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine.
According to VFW President of the Auxiliary Alice Ewing, the trash and treasure sale has become a yearly fundraiser that is scheduled for sometime in the summer.
She said the money that is raised from the sale helps with the funds the Auxiliary spends on needed items for the James Van Zandt Veterans Hospital, Hollidaysburg Veterans Home and the Scotland School.
Some of the items the members of the Auxiliary are able to provide to residents of these facilities are canteen books for Christmas, Bingo during the year, numerous extracurricular activities and comfort items for the veterans.
Ewing also explained the Scotland School is a division of the VFW. The school is for children of veterans and their families who might not have the financial basis to go to school otherwise.
For the trash and treasure sale, Ewing said the Auxiliary raised approximately $150 – $200 dollars last year, and she said the turn-out of people in the past years has been good.
The Auxiliary members and members of the VFW donated items for this year’s sale. Also members of the Auxiliary donated hot dogs, rolls, onions, sauerkraut, coffee and soda to be sold at the sale.
Ewing said there will be lots of items for sale, as well as hot dogs and sauerkraut for those who might get hungry along the way.
She also said the yard sale should be a success because it can be held rain or shine, since it will be held inside the VFW. Many tables will be set up, and the items for sale will be placed on them for display.
She would like to thank the members of the Auxiliary and everybody who donated items and food for the trash and treasure sale.
This is the Auxiliary’s main fundraiser for the year, and Ewing is hoping that mostly everything is sold. Any leftover items will be donated to a charity of the Auxiliary’s choice.
