Routine business dominated the Bellwood Borough Council meeting last evening.
During the public comment session of the meeting, Resident Scott Engle expressed his concern for pedestrian safety in his neighborhood.
He said he would like stop signs to be installed at South 3rd and Boyles streets because motorists are speeding up that one-way street.
Council decided to have an engineer look at the intersection and determine if a traffic study is warranted.
The board was also notified of the resignation of two part-time police officers by council member Fred Sweigert. He agrees with the police chief that advertisements need to be put into the local newspapers as soon as possible to fill these vacancies.
Sue Johnson reported speaking to Doug Wolf of Wolf Furniture, and he has donated funds to purchase four weather-resistant park benches. Each bench will carry the message “Courtesy of Wolf Furniture.”
Council agreed that an engineer will look at the PennDOT agreement “Inspection of Roads to be Abandoned” before issuing their signature of approval.
During the new business portion of the meeting, council decided to renew its winter snow traffic agreement with the state department of Transportation, and also renew its state Route 865 winter sidewalk agreement with Antis Township.
Council also agreed to remove the temporary stop signs at Main & Cambria streets, and Main & South Tuckahoe streets and install permanent stop signs.
Council authorized the purchase of a full page advertisement in the Blue Devil Football program.
Council will also begin looking into the purchase and installation of new signs for both ends of town announcing the Bellwood-Antis baseball state championship.
