Amy Gilliland, cadet third class at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, achieved listing on the athletic Honor Roll for her accomplishments during her freshman year, 2002-2003.
As a pole vaulter, Amy received two varsity letters, one for indoor track and field over the winter months and one for outdoor track and field during the spring. To achieve honor roll status, one must also excel in all phases of required athletic activities at the academy.
The United States Air Force Academy is a Division I school and is a member of the Mountain West Athletic Conference. Cadet Gilliland competed in 18 track and field meets and traveled from Colorado to California, Annapolis, Maryland, Florida, New Mexico, Wyoming and Nebraska.
Amy, a 2002 Honors graduate of Tyrone Area High School, was a two-time All-State pole vaulter and also an Honorable Mention All-State diver for the Golden Eagles. She earned 12 varsity letters at Tyrone in three varsity sports.
Amy is presently enjoying a three week summer break with her brother J. R. and sister Ashley and parents John Galen and Karen Gilliland of Warriors Mark.
Amy is the granddaughter of Max and Eleanor Isenberg and great-granddaughter of Ethel Hughes, all of Alexandria and grand daughter of the late John L. and Hazel Gilliland of Warriors Mark.
Glider training or jump school will occupy the balance of the summer for Amy until classes begin in August.
