It’s amazing how rumors get started and how gossip spreads in any small community.
I have to admit that I was as mad as a hornet when I heard from several people that both Tyrone’s young people and even adults were getting fined for simply sitting in City Hotel Park.
It’s always important to reach out and dig up the facts. As indicated in my story in the paper the other day, citations for loitering have NEVER been written. The oldest ordinance on the books in Tyrone involves the riding of bicycles on borough sidewalks and that rule also goes for City Hotel Park.
Again, the truth is that the only tickets written at City Hotel Park involved bicycles. Anything else is a false rumor. And I understand the concern of the mayor’s office when it comes to vandalism in the park, and I agree with the security camera that has been installed to assist in curbing any more problems in the park.
The bottom line is that no one should feel like they can’t be in the park. Sit and enjoy it as I have this week. While I started to test the waters on the loitering rumors, by sitting in the park daily, I found after doing my research that I just enjoyed taking a few minutes to relax and enjoy it. You should do the same.
Congratulations to the Tyrone Area School District and its board for putting themselves and the taxpayers in such a good financial situation. How many school districts do you know of, can do an expansion without it turning into a war with the citizens? Not many! But the planned middle expansion will go smoothy because of the foresight of many people.
It’s another big event in Tipton this weekend with the Native American POW WOW taking place at DelGrosso Amusement Park.
My wife and I collect native American and southwestern art and have always enjoyed events like this. The grand entry is to not be missed and takes place both tomorrow and Sunday. Take the kids and grandchildren for a little history lesson that they won’t soon forget.
“I Hear Music! The Life, Music and Legacy” of Tyrone’s Fred Waring is complete. This 16-page special edition will arrive in The Daily Herald, next Saturday, July 26th. And a special radio edition of this tabloid will air on 1340 WTRN radio from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Peter Keifer at Penn State has been incredible on providing content, photographs, music and more. This project was so much fun to put together. Again thanks to Peter and to WTRN’s Cary Simpson for working with us on this project. I truly hope you use the tabloid to follow a long while listening to the radio show.
I’m going out of town on business and even may get to sit in the sun on the beach. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
