A original project that has taken several months to research and complete will showcase the life, music and legacy of Tyrone’s music man Fred Waring.
The unique combination of The Daily Herald joining with Tyrone radio station 1340 WTRN will bring to light the entire career of Waring from his early days in music to his very popular workshops at Penn State University.
The 16-page special edition tabloid will arrive in the newspaper next Saturday morning, July 26th, and is your guide to a two-hour radio extravaganza that will air that same morning on WTRN from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Readers can follow along as the radio show takes a musical time travel journey through the decades of Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians. The radio show, at times, will refer you to the special tabloid and its pictures, as well as taking time to highlight the many radio and television shows that featured Waring and his vocalists.
Penn State University and its library played a key part in putting the combination show together. Peter Kiefer oversees the Fred Waring American Archives featuring thousands of photos, drawings and, of course, Waring’s popular music. All of the photos, information and music where lent to The Daily Herald for the showcases to be produced.
