(ALTOONA, PA)- Though its fans would have preferred to have a spot in the Eastern League’s post-season already locked up, losses in each of the last two games have given the Curve a chance to clinch a playoff berth at Blair County Ballpark beginning Monday night when Altoona hosts Reading in a doubleheader beginning at 6:05 p.m. A victory in either game of the doubleheader will clinch a first-round matchup against the Southern Division champion Akron Aeros beginning Wednesday, September 3rd in game one of a five-game series.
If the Curve locks up a spot in the post-season, Altoona will play at Akron in first two games of the Southern Division playoffs on Wednesday, Sept. 3rd and Thursday the 4th. The series would then shift to Blair County Ballpark for Game 3 on Friday the 5th and, if necessary, Game 4 on Saturday the 6th. If needed, Game 5 would return to Canal Park on Sunday the 7th.
A playoff appearance by the Curve would be a welcome sight to the club’s supporters. Since it joined the E.L. in 1999, Altoona is the only franchise in the league not to advance to the post-season.
