It’s that scary time of year again when ghosts and goblins come out of the woods at Reservoir Park to celebrate the autumn season.
The Tyrone Community Players have scheduled the dates for Scary Tale Trail for Saturday, October 18, beginning at 6:30 p.m. for children over the age of eight and Sunday afternoon, beginning at 2 p.m. a trail with stories appropriate for children aged eight and under.
Costumed story tellers will be positioned along a trail in the Reservoir Park woods which will be lighted with luminaries and pumpkins, and the children will be escorted through the trail by flashlight toting costumed guides. The children will be stopping to hear each Halloween story along the way. Groups will be leaving every 15 minutes, after being given a dose of courage and safety by the “Good Fairy.”
“Then, along with the two or three flash-lighted guides for each group, they will go down the path lighted with illuminaries,” said Tyrone Community Players board member Cindy Bennett. “There will be five stops along the way where costumed storytellers will regale them with lures from the season, but nothing gory or too scary. The woods at night make things a little more frightening than normal.”
At the end of the walk, the children will be treated to cookies and a beverage.
The Tyrone Community Players invite anyone interested in helping to organize and run Scary Tale Trail to attend a meeting on Tuesday, October 7 at 7 p.m. in the theater of the Tyrone YMCA.
“The trail will take 20-30 volunteers to work as guides for the groups as they go on their walk, story tellers, and refreshment servers,” said Bennett. “We are also very grateful for the help of the fire police, who will be handling the traffic for us so there is no congestion, the Tyrone Borough for allowing us to use Reservoir Park, and the school district who were gracious in allowing us to send flyers about the trail through the school.”
The members of Tyrone Community Players are excited to bring back Scary Tale Trail to Reservoir Park.
Bennett said the group had to stop the trail in 1995 when the group’s main stage schedule increased, and there was not enough manpower to cover it all. However, Tyrone Community Players decided to bring back Scary Tale Trail in celebration of the group’s 20th anniversary season.
If anyone is interested in volunteering for Scary Tale Trail, join the members of the Tyrone Community Players at the meeting at the YMCA tomorrow. Also, reservations for the trail can be made by phoning 684-ART2.
