The Tyrone junior high girls basketball teams dropped decisions to Bellefonte on Tuesday.
Playing at Tyrone, the Lady Eagles ninth grade squad fell to 1-4 on the season by absorbing a 41-18 loss to Bellefonte.
“Both games were really interesting,” said Tyrone coach Kerry Naylor. “We did a good job against their defense, but couldn’t put the ball in the basket.”
Meg Turiano and Elizabeth Tepsic led the Lady Eagles with six points each. Turiano added four steal and Tepsic pulled down six rebounds.
“What we have to do is keep the girls believing,” said Naylor. “We did a really good job breaking their defense, but we just couldn’t finish at our end of the court. We seemed to be playing tight. The girls were missing open lay-ups.”
The eighth graders fell to Bellefonte 33-16 to drop their record to 2-3.
Sarah Halter led the Tyrone girls with nine points and nine rebounds. Sarah Cox added six boards.
Coach Naylor singled out the play of Ashley Shultz. “Ashley is playing very well right now. Her name doesn’t appear on the stat sheets, but she is earning her way up to the A-team. She has been one player that we couldn’t play without.”
“I told the team we won’t win a game 10-7,” continued Naylor. “We had the game plan and we worked it pretty well. We just missed the shots. Then we got down and started to press and it boomeranged on us.”
The Tyrone high girls are back in action on Thursday, hosting Penns Valley at 3:15 p.m.
