The Tyrone girls volleyball team hosted Philipsburg-Osceola on Tuesday evening.
The Lady Eagles won the opening game 25-18, but then the Lady Mounties came back to take the next three games in a row, 25-16, 25-15 and 25-16 to hand Tyrone the loss. Tyrone’s record falls to 6-9 with one match to go.
Emily Lloyd had nine service points for the Lady Eagles, Ashley Roth contributed seven kills, Sara Mease had seven digs and Katie Whitby had 26 assists
“We played really solid defensively and offensively in the first game,” said Tyrone coach Dave Eckberg. “We had them on their heels a bit, but then their middle took control of the match. She’s a great player and she’s about six inches taller than anyone of our girls. Ashley and Stephanie got a lot of touches to slow her down, but in the end, we just couldn’t match up there. Our passing fell off after the first game and we weren’t able to attack the ball. Overall though, I was very pleased with the way the girls played.”
Erin Albright led the Lady Mounties with 11 service points.
The Lady Eagle junior varsity lost to Philipsburg-Osceola two games to none
The Lady Eagles complete their 2003 season by hosting Bellwood-Antis on Thursday for Senior Recognition Night. The junior varsity contest will begin at 6 p.m. with seniors being recognized before the varsity match at approximately 7 p.m.
