Robert J. “Peck” or “Red” Kennedy, 72, of 1457 Pennsylvania Ave., Tyrone died Friday, October 31, 2003 at his residence. He was born September 30, 1931 in Tyrone, a son of Robert Wilson and Emma (Becker) Kennedy. On November 21, 1953 at the First Methodist Church, Tyrone he married Jane Hammond.
Surviving is his wife, 2 daughters Deb Gearhart and husband Jerry of Madison, South Dakota, Bobbi Jane Newcomer and husband Ronald of York, 4 grandchildren, Benjamin Gearhart and wife Karen of South Dakota, Matthew Gearhart and wife Heather of South Dakota, Teresa May and husband Jeremy of York and Stacy Grim and husband Harley of York, 4 great-grandchildren, Haley, Caitlyn and Ramey James Gearhart and Ethan Grim.
Mr. Kennedy retired in 1994 from Westvaco, Tyrone following 42 1/2 years service.
He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Tyrone Hookies, Central Fireman’s Association, life member of the Tyrone Elks No. 212, Tyrone F&AM Lodge No. 494, Jaffa Consistory, Jaffa Temple, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Jaffa Hillbillies, Jaffa Railroad, Jaffa Campers, NCT Penn Ramblers Campers and MASARV. In addition he was a former member of the Tyrone Gardner Guards Drum and Bugle Corp. and the Jaffa Drum and Bugle Corps for 10 years, and had been a member and former officer of the Tyrone Jaycees. He was in the Naval Reserves, Altoona during the Korean Conflict for 4 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, November 4, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at the Feller Memorial Home with Rev. Charles A. Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will follow at Burket Cemetery, Warriors Mark Township. Friends will be received on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Feller Memorial Home where there will be Elks services at 6:30 P.M. and Masonic services at 6:45 P.M.
