Members of the Birmingham Presbyterian Church have scheduled their annual holiday bazaar to be held in the church basement Saturday, November 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The bazaar has been one of the staples of church activity in Birmingham for the past 25 years, and it has grown tremendously. Hundreds of people each year attend the annual church bazaar.
Numerous holiday items will be available for purchase including Thanksgiving and Christmas crafts.
For those interested in a special gift, Vicki Kill will be on hand the day of the bazaar to create personalized ornaments.
Linda Harris has been working hard to complete hand sewn quilted items that will be available at the event. Also, there will be handmade neckties for men, beaded ornaments, and other assorted crafts.
A white elephant table will be set up as well with many used items available for purchase. Members of the church and community have donated items to be sold at the table so that this year’s selection is larger than in the past.
A wide variety of baked goods will also be available at the bazaar, including brownies, fudge, pies and cookies.
Jean Nobel has been working extremely hard as the organizer for the famous ham and bean soup that will be available for purchase at the bazaar. Nobel is in charge of all the preparations for the soup, including making the broth, and making sure the ham and bean soup is cooked properly.
“The ham and bean soup is always a big hit,” said church member Deb Hoover.
The ham and bean soup will be $3 per quart. Containers will be provided, or individuals can bring their own containers for the soup.
Special note cards with a picture of the Birmingham Presbyterian Church will also be available at the bazaar as well as the church’s most recent newsletter.
According to Hoover, the bazaar is the largest fundraiser the church has all year. The money raised helps to pay for the special events at the church, such as annual holiday dinners and social events. Part of the money also goes toward the church’s mission fund.
Upcoming events for the church include the annual candlelight service scheduled for Sunday, December 21. The public is invited to attend.
