Hundreds of bikers line up at Burgi’s Roundhouse as they prepare to set off on the 120-mile fundraising run on Sunday, July 1 to benefit the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society.

The annual “Bikers for Barkers” motorcycle run to benefit the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society this year drew an unprecedented, record breaking 512 registered riders and netted the organization $10,000.
Organizers said the run, which began and finished at Burgi’s Roundhouse in Greenwood, was the single largest public event ever held by CPHS and likely the largest organized motorcycle ride in Blair County history.
“We were absolutely thrilled with the turnout,” said CPHS Director of Fundraising/Public Relations, Dave Hopkins. “It was overwhelming to see that many people coming out to support our homeless animals. We actually ran out of T-shirts because we planned on about 400 riders and were taken by surprise with the huge increase in numbers!
“We are ordering T-shirts for those who didn’t get theirs at the ride and we’ll be in touch with them. We thank everyone who took part, especially Burgi’s staff, Clem’s BBQ and all our sponsors who made it all possible!”
In spite of the huge increase in the number of riders, Hopkins said the event was orderly and, “Everyone I spoke to said they had a great time and they’ll be back next year!”
All the funds raised at the event go directly to help care for the homeless animals at the CPHS shelter.
Just as a reminder, CPHS has an on-going wish list for those individuals who would like to donate an item to the shelter, which can include: kitty litter, puppy and kitten food, leashes and collars, toys and treats for the animals, bleach and laundry detergent, medium-sized gloves for cleaning, old blankets and towels, copy paper, postage stamps, hand sanitizer and paper towels.
Shelter hours are: 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. On Friday the shelter extends hours from 12:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. The shelter is closed on Wednesdays.
