Just a few months ago, when the charter for Citizens Fire Co. in Tyrone was pulled, a building sat empty on West Tenth Street.
The former Citizens Social Hall once contained a variety of community events, but financial hardships at the company forced the closure of both the volunteer fire company and it’s community building.
Recently, the Tyrone Community Partnership announced it would purchase the building, and now the group is ready to open the doors to the public.
In collaboration with the Tyrone Merchants Association, TCP is pleased to announce that it will be making the newly named Tyrone Social Center available for local non-profit organizations to use to sell various baked goods, products, or other items to aid in fundraising efforts for their organizations.
More than 15 area merchants belong to the Tyrone Merchants Association. The Merchants will be offering special 2-day pre-holiday sales in their local retail locations on Nov. 21-22. Included with this event will be two gift basket giveaways and a Chamber of Commerce Gift certificate.
This event, advertised as “Yuletide Tyrone – Shop Tyrone” is being announced in local newspapers and local radio stations as far away as State College.
Local organizations can reserve a table to setup for the 2-day event free to raise fundraising dollars. In return, TCP requests that a donation of any dollar amount be made towards the Tyrone Social Center for use of the facility.
During the 2-day sale, TCP will also be selling concessions.
“One of the many goals we have within the Tyrone Community Partnership is to extend our hand in support of not only the local retail businesses of Tyrone, but to also aid and assist the various non-profit organizations within our community,” said TCP President Ray Liddick Jr. “This 2-day event is ideal in showing the growing collaborative efforts by all parties involved to promote Tyrone and what our town has to offer.”
Not only is TCP opening the building for not-for-profit groups, but its also taking reservations to host community and private events at the social center.
According to Liddick, the Tyrone Social Center is ideal for community dinners, small and large group parties, wedding receptions, business and corporate outings or events.
Special arrangements can also be made to offer and/or supply each event with linens, place settings, wedding cakes, and floral arrangements, along with full-service catering.
Located in downtown Tyrone, the Tyrone Social Center can accommodate up to 200 people. Various size rooms are available, including a large gathering room that includes a raised 10-by-30 foot stage with sound system. In addition, a full-service kitchen complete with refrigerators, stoves, serving lines and other needed items too can be utilized for special functions. The kitchen is designed and capable of handling both large and small groups.
