The Tyrone Area School District Renaissance Education Foundation announced a group of student stars for the first marking period of the 2003-04 school year.
Teachers nominated fourteen students for recognition due to their outstanding academic achievement, positive attitude, or overall improvements.
Sixth grader, Paris Harden, was chosen by Mr. Bouslough, Mr. Friday and Mrs. Myers. Her teachers commented that Paris has a fantastic attitude towards school, that she always has a smile on her face, and that she gets along with everyone.
Sixth grader, Suzanne Zimmerman, was selected by her teacher, Mrs. Chamberlain. Her teacher commented that Suzanne is a model student, that she works hard, and that she has a positive attitude and completes assignments accurately and on time. Also, Suzanne is always willing to help and encourages other students to do their best.
The seventh grade team of teachers, Miss Hovan, Miss Johnston, Mr. Loth and Miss Tyler nominated two seventh graders.
First, Caitlin Rhodes was selected because she is a conscientious student who demonstrates an outstanding work ethic in the classroom. Her teachers said that despite an injury, she is an active participant in the classroom and gives one hundred percent in everything she attempts.
Second, Wesley Young was selected because he is conscientious and hard working. His teachers commented that he does his best at everything he attempts, is prepared for class and works well with his peers.
Eighth grader Alexis Murray was chosen by her history teacher, Mr. Rhoades. Her teacher commented that Alexis is friendly and willing to help other students. She is conscientious, completes work on time and takes pride in her work. She also won the Accelerated Reader Program for the first marking period by reading 11 books and accumulating 76 points.
Billy Wooten was nominated by his eighth grade English teacher, Mrs. Howe. His teacher said that he is polite, does his work and pays attention in class. He also demonstrates excellent behavior in the classroom.
Ninth grader Meredith Graudons was praised by band director, Mr. Laird. Her teacher said that she has a positive, hard-working attitude that never fades. She has also displayed the characteristics worthy of recognition in her music classes and among her fellow peers.
Ninth grader Casey Schmidt was commended by math teacher, Miss Ahles. His teacher said that he has shown great improvement in his homework and his total attitude toward math.
Sara Fink was selected by her tenth grade English teacher, Miss Stom. Her teacher commented that Sara always works hard. She is a great writer, excited about class and participates willingly.
Sophomore Jenna Simondale was chosen by English teacher, Miss Dobrowsky. Her teacher said that Jenna goes above the call of duty for the Eagle Eye School Newspaper. She asks for additional articles to write, pictures to take and pages to edit. Her enthusiasm energizes and motivates other staff members.
Junior Lynet Herist was nominated by art teacher, Mr. Feather. Her teacher said that Lynet has demonstrated a combination of industry and imagination that has enabled her to produce artwork of exceptional quality for the first marking period.
Jon Lowey was chosen by his eleventh grade English teacher, Mr. Everhart. His teacher commented that Jon has improved his verbal SAT score during the first two months of school. This 305 point gain testifies to his tremendous intellect, his commitment to expand his vocabulary and his ability to refine his verbal skills.
Senior Anthony Damico was chosen by English teacher, Mrs. Kramer. His teacher said that Anthony has done wonderfully during the first nine weeks in English. He has turned in all assignments on time. Anthony writes solid essays, displays a good attitude and is a hard worker.
Senior Ashley McNeal was nominated by the culinary arts teacher, Ms. Wallace. Her teacher said that Ashley has met her challenges with hard work and a positive attitude. She has made tremendous strides academically and socially. She also did an excellent job as she assisted with the Distinguished Alumni Luncheon.
All of the teachers and staff would like to offer their congratulations to these fourteen Renaissance student stars for the first marking period. The faculty and staff are proud every student at the Tyrone Area School District for their accomplishments.
