After skating through a scoreless opening period, the Central PA Wolves junior high team outscored the Hollidaysburg Junior High Tigers ice hockey team 2-1 in the middle period and added an insurance goal in the final period to post a 3-1 win. The game was played at Galactic Ice on Monday and improved the Wolves record to 5-1.
The two teams traded goals early in the second period with Central PA scoring at the 8:03 mark on a goal by Tyrone seventh grader Justin Howard and an assist by Chris Carthew (Chestnut Ridge) and the Tigers’ Michael Stell tied the game at 1-1 with 5:28 remaining.
Central PA then added a pair of unassisted golas, one by Taj Zielezinski (Bedford) with 1:46 on the second-period clock and then an insurance tally in the third period by Carthew at the 7:24 mark of the period.
Goalie Kody Martin (Allegany County) was good on 16 of 17 shots on goal for the win in goal.
Next action for the junior high Wolves will be Monday, Dec. 15 versus the Indiana Junior Phantoms at Galactic Ice at 6:50 p.m. A tentative game has also been set up, but not finalized with the Planet Ice Junior Avalanche at Galactic Ice for Wednesday, Dec. 17.
