T. Lorraine Griffith, 78, of 212 E. 12th St., Tyrone House Apartments, Tyrone, died at 4 p.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2003, at her residence.
Born December 5, 1925, in Kearney, she was the daughter of the late John Milton and Annie Catherine (Smith) Showalter. Her first marriage was to Harry Frances Weaverling May 25, 1942, in Langdondale, with the Rev. Darrel Satterfeld officiating. Mr. Weaverling preceded her in death in 1955. She was united in marriage to Charles Monroe Griffith February 10, 1961, in Winchester, VA by the Rev. Clark. Mr. Griffith preceded her in death January 18, 2002.
She is survived by one son, Clem “Buck” Weaverling, and his wife, Jean, of Cottonwood, Ala., and six daughters: Mrs. Robert (Sandra Hoover) Freeman of Fayetteville; Mrs. Ed (Linda Clippinger) Petron of Wells Tannery; Mrs. Robert (Sherry) Ingram of Bald Eagle; Mrs. Randy (Valorie) Merritts of Alexandria; Mrs. James (Rebecca) Ryan of Abbeville, Ala.; and Mrs. Roger (Rhoda) Hall of Alexandria. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Two sisters survive: Ruth Horton of Newville and Mrs. Fred (Dorothy Loretta) Dick of Barree.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Elliot Showalter and John Henry Showalter, and nine sisters: Catherine Ann Diehl, Viola Gertrude Figard, Ethel Showalter, Mabel Rudy, Dolly Jean Dick, Madeline Showalter, Geraldine Showalter and twins Margaret Wilma (Guyer) Hammond and Mildred Wilma Showalter.
Mrs. Griffith was a member of Shermans Valley Brethren Church in Christ, Hopewell and the Williamsburg Church of God.
She attended Langdondale public schools and later the Altoona Area Technical School, where she received certification as a nurse’s aid May 1, 1973.
She had been employed as a certified nurse’s aid at Epworth Manor in Tyrone, Mercy Hospital in Altoona and J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.
She has been a lifetime resident of Huntingdon County before moving to Tyrone in 1999.
Mrs. Griffith was an avid bingo player and loved to read and play guitar. She had a special interest in plants, flowers and gardening.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 13, at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, 207 Ridge Road, Smithfield Township-Huntingdon, with Pastors Lou Zannino and Rick Reily officiating. Interment will be made in Shermans Valley Brethren in Christ Church Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service Saturday.
Contributions in remembrance of Mrs. Griffith may be made to the American Cancer Society, RR 1, Huntingdon, PA 16652 for lung cancer research.
