Three Tyrone Area High School seniors were placed in the academic spotlight earlier this month at the district’s regular school board meeting.
The students, along with their teacher Eric Feather and a representative from Juniata College, Nathan Wagoner, were introduced by High School Principal Rebecca Erb. After a brief introduction by Feather, those in attendance were treated to a digital video presentation about none other than the subject of digital video editing.
“The students have used digital video editing while working on the video yearbook as well as filming pep rallies, sporting events and alumni events. It has a lot of uses. It is a valuable tool. I hope what we presented will express the obvious advantages of the technology to the board,” said Feather.
The presentation was narrated by student Jordan Rhoat and featured students Teresa Fernandez and Sara Mease. All three explained the benefits of digital video editing during the concise and at times comedic presentation.
Rhoat explained the equipment is portable and can be easily maneuvered and stored. He pointed out the tapes used are compact and digital cameras have a battery pack so no extension cords or outlets are needed.
He also pointed out the information stored on a computer hard drive or disc thus reducing or eliminating storage space. The technology of digital video and its editing capabilities also offers better quality.
Other benefits include creating more interesting ways of editing for the producer of a presentation and the ability of holding the interest of a potential audience through that creativity. Rhoat also noted digital is easier to use than analog video plus it is quicker, less expensive and allows the producer to create more effects.
The program at Tyrone Area also allows students to learn about the cutting edge technology which can then be applied in fields such as communications, advertising and education.
