Tyrone\’s Junior High boys basketball team jumped out to a 15-6 first quarter lead, and never let Philipsburg-Osceola get any closer than four points as they brought home a 35-22 win on \”Freshman Day\” at Philipsburg.
Seven players got into the scoring for the Baby Eagles, led by Steve Catich with 13. Tyler Hoover tossed in 12, while Wade Branstetter and Jamie Levinson contributed three points each to the cause.
Now 9 – 9, Tyrone hosts backyard rival Bellwood-Antis (19 – 1) tomorrow at the TAHS gym at 3:15 p.m.
In the eighth grade game, Coach Cushion\’s charges scored early and often on their way to their 13th win of the season, 48-9. All 11 players got into the scoring column, with Brandon Gehret and Ty Wilson each scoring eight points. Matt Brooks added six, and Dustin Rudasil contributed five.
After digging themselves into a deep hole, trailing 23-9 at halftime, Tyrone\’s Junior High boys stormed back to trail only by 36- 32 with 1:23 showing on the clock, only to turn the ball over on four their next six posessions, and fell by a 38-34 score to Lewistown on Monday.
Jamie Levinson and Tyler Hoover led the scoring with 10 points apiece. Wade Branstetter tossed in eight.
In the \”B\” game, Tyrone\’s eighth graders avenged one of their two losses by defeating the Panther eighth graders, 39-33.
Brandon Gehret led the scoring with 13 points, including three \”trifecta\’s\”.
