The Women\’s Health Center of Tyrone is sponsoring a free educational program titled “Is It Depression or Just the Winter Blues?” on Wednesday, February 18 at 7 p.m. in the classroom at Tyrone Hospital.
Licensed professional counselor affiliated with the behavioral health division of Home Nursing Agency, Joel Zuicker is the scheduled speaker for the program.
“We thought it might be a good subject for this time of year,” explained office manager Robin Garman of why the topic of depression was chosen for the program.
Garman said many people suffer from sun depravation during this time of year as well as the post-holiday blues. This seminar will help people to distinguish between the “winter blues” and depression.
There will be numerous topics discussed during the program, including warning signs and treatments.
Denise Kay, CRNP, might also speak at the program about what prescriptions people can take for depression as well as what people can expect when they ask their physician or nurse practitioner about depression.
It has been over a year that the Women’s Health Center of Tyrone has initiated the free educational programs at the Tyrone Hospital.
Some of the topics that have been covered in the past year at other seminars include: osteoporosis, pre-menstrual syndrome, sexually transmitted diseases, urinary incontinence, breast cancer and a mini-health fair.
Upcoming plans include a breast feeding class on Tuesday, February 24 from 6-8 p.m., in the classroom at the Tyrone Hospital. The program will be presented by Denise Kay, nurse practitioner. The program is open to all women who are considering breastfeeding.
