After reviewing applications for the position of code enforcement officer, Snyder Township supervisors appointed resident Robert Ayers to fill the vacant position.
Ayers will receive mileage reimbursement and $10.95 an hour for the part-time position. Supervisor Jim Daughenbaugh agreed to mentor Ayers, since Daughenbaugh held the position of code enforcement officer in the past.
Identification badges were issued to the supervisors as well. At last month’s meeting, there were two options supervisors had to choose from for the badges, a one-sided ID which would have cost $10 for each township employee, and a two-sided ID which would have cost $15 each. The supervisors previously approved for secretary Viola Dysart to purchase the one-sided IDs, which were distributed at Monday night’s meeting.
Also at a previous meeting, supervisors decided that both the code enforcement officer and the sanitary enforcement officer should carry the IDs that are issued to all township employees instead of going to the extra expense of purchasing extra badges.
Talk of township employee IDs began at the February meeting in light of the scams in Tyrone Borough where individuals were entering homes on the premise of being Water Authority employees.
Also at the meeting, Dysart announced that anyone interested in submitting building permits to the township needs to do so by Thursday, April 8, before new legislation goes into effect.
Township engineer Bill Gohn gave an update on the Ironville, Tyrone Forge and Cook Hollow sewer extension projects. He said the construction on both projects should begin in early May.
In other township business, supervisors:
• adopted Resolution 2004-32 to accept Tel-Power proposal for the annual replacement of traffic signal lamps at three intersections by approving the Superior Lamps at $675 a piece;
• adopted Resolution 2004-31 to pay Terry Eaken from Phase II of the HOME Grant for the third payment of Project No. 14 in the amount of $6,898;
• approved for Dysart to attend three workshops: one on Wednesday, May 19 on subdivision and land development, a two-day workshop on May 3-4 for GIS training and a meeting and training for Blair County Emergency services on May 12;
• awarded the stone bid to New Enterprise, the dust-oil bid to WRC Whittaker Road Corp., the fuel bids to JJ Powell and granted tentative approval for the Dirt and Gravel Grant for Beaston Road to New Enterprise;
• received notice from the Blair County Commissioners on CDBG awards, with $6,120 going to I-99 Economic Development and approximately $132,000 going to the Tyrone Forge sewer line;
• discussed with concerned citizens about what can be done about people dumping garbage in the area of Gypsy Camp Hollow Road; and
• scheduled a road inspection meeting and any other official business for Thursday, April 15 at 8 a.m.
