There are a few schools in district 6 that you think of when you speak of tradition on the track. BEA is just two years removed from a state team championship, and Tyrone boasts three district and eight Mountain conference titles. The two proud programs met in Wingate Thursday with Tyrone winning 92-58.
“We beat a solid team,” said Tyrone head coach Tony Yaniello. “They won their last meet by 100 points.”
In beating the weather and the Eagles, the Golden Eagles positioned themselves as a possible contender in the conference. Multiple winners were Tommy Crowl (100, 400, and long jump) and Justin Wilson (high jump and 110 hurdles). Single winners were Billy Dean (200), Evan Stover (pole vault), Adam Shaffer (javelin), and Leonard Wilson (triple jump). The relay teams of Dan Domenick, Billy Dean, Leonard Wilson, and Tommy Crowl (1600) and Dean, L. Wilson, J. Wilson, and Trey Brockett (400) rounded out the event winners.
Emily Lloyd continued her strong spring by winning three events (110 and 300 hurdles and long jump) and placing second in the triple jump. But the ladies from Bald Eagle ran away with the meet 111-30, winning the other 15 events.
