An Easter drug party was disrupted yesterday when members of the state police vice unit stormed a home in Logan Township. By the end of the day, seven people were in custody and police had seized 641 pounds of marijuana, $167,000 in cash, three guns and discovered two indoor marijuana growing areas.
The warrant was served by the state police Special Emergency Response Team at the Shady Road, Logan Township home of 46-year-old Kevin Flood. Inside, police found six individuals in the process of weighing and dividing 550 pounds of marijuana for distribution, worth more than $500,000.
In addition, police found $25,417 in cash, an ounce of cocaine, four vehicles, a loaded Glock 9mm handgun and an enclosed box trailer, used to hide the marijuana.
Police also served a search warrant at the Bear Wallow Road, Duncansville residence of 44-year-old Kenneth Hamlin. There, police found approximately one pound of marijuana, $5,000 in cash and two guns.
According to police, the individuals arrested yesterday have been distributing marijuana in the Blair and Centre County areas for many years. Police said they obtained about 500 pounds of marijuana almost every month through the use of a “mule,” who secretly transported large amounts from suppliers in California to suppliers in Blair County.
Police also said through the course of the investigation, an additional 90 pounds of marijuana was seized, as well as two indoor marijuana grows and $137,000 in cash.
The busts stems from a nine-month investigation into the large-scale distribution of marijuana into the Blair and Centre County areas.
Those arrested include Flood and Hamlin; Hamlin’s wife Laurel; 30-year-old Wayne A. Vance of West Salem, Ohio; Karen L. Sandner, 43, Vista, Calif.; Raymond A. Rabreau, 61, of Astoria, Ore.; and Keith P. Brubaker, 45, of Dysart.
Each individual was arrested on various charges of delivery of marijuana, possession of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and criminal conspiracy. They were arraigned before District Magistrate Ormsby in Roaring Springs and remanded to the Blair County Prison. Preliminary hearings are scheduled for April 15.
