Mrs. Mary Jane Welliver, age 83, of 1 Riverview Manor, Lewisburg, PA died Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at 5:35 p.m. She was born July 15, 1920 in Altoona, the daughter of John S. and Ella Burket Simpson and on August 2, 1950 was married at the Broad Avenue United Methodist Church, Altoona, by the Reverends Glasco, Meredith and Fields to the Reverend H. Richard Welliver who preceded her in death March 7, 1993. She is survived by one son, Richard, of Montgomery, PA; two sisters – Martha S. Kozar (Frank) of Salix, and Pearl S. Smith (Robert) of Fairfax, VA and one brother John S. Simpson (Patricia) of Altoona.
She was a graduate of Altoona High School, Class of 1938, received a Bachelor of Science in 1942 from Juniata College and an M. Ed. in 1949 from Penn State University. She had taught school in Philipsburg and Coalport Area school systems. She was a Minister of Music in the United Methodist Church and was very active all her life doing the Lord’s work through the music of the church.
Following the Welliver’s retirement from the active ministry of the Central Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church they moved to Tyrone, PA where they were the overseers of a new concept of shared living for Seniors at Epworth Manor.
Funeral service for Mrs. Welliver will be held Friday, April 23, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone, PA. Officiating will be the Reverends Craig Foust, Viola Tyson and Ann Palmer. Interment will be made in Grandview Cemetery, Tyrone. Contributions in her memory may be made to Muncy United Methodist Church, Muncy, PA 17756.
