Further action was taken in regards to Act 537, which requires all Snyder Township residents to get their septic tanks pumped once every five years.
According to township secretary, Viola Dysart, all certified letters have been sent out to those individuals who have not yet shown a receipt for having their septic tanks pumped out.
Out of the letters sent, 15 individuals have not responded at all, and three letters have not been claimed. Township engineer Bill Gohn said he would deliver the three letters that have not yet been picked up.
As for the 15 individuals who have not responded, supervisors approved for the names of those individuals to be filed through District Magistrate Fred Miller’s office.
Last evening, supervisors also heard an update from Gohn about the CDBG sewer project for Ironsville, Tyrone Forge and Cooks Hollow.
According to Gohn, the project is scheduled for the PENNVEST loan closing on Thursday. After the closing of the loan, construction can begin.
He said for the Tyrone Forge/Ironsville sewer project, 150 calendar days have been allotted for construction, and for the Cooks Hollow sewer project, 240 calendar days have been allotted.
Solicitor Allen Gibboney reported changes on the draft of Ordinance No. 2004-4, establishing the authority for the Snyder Township tax collector to collect fees for tax certification.
Gibboney said the changes the tax collector requested before the ordinance is passed are additional fees to be added for returned checks and photo copies. As the draft was prepared, it only included fees for tax certification and duplicates.
Gibboney also suggested not having a set fee written in the ordinance, such as $5 for each transaction. He said the supervisors may word the ordinance to read “a fee,” and not establish a set amount in the ordinance.
This way, supervisors could change the fee by resolution instead of amending the ordinance each time the fee would have to be changed.
Supervisors approved the changes to the ordinance of adding fees for returned checks and photo copies. They also approved to have the ordinance worded so they could change it by resolution instead of having to amend the ordinance each time a fee change was needed.
Gibboney will make the changes to the ordinance, and it will be voted on at a future meeting.
