I’m sorry to hear about the situation involving Tyrone Borough Manager Nathan George. I really don’t know the details, but I’m sure they will be released soon. I found Nathan to be pleasant and helpful to the newspaper when it came to the questions from our reporters. I wish him and his family the best. And I also hope that Tyrone Borough can find a good replacement soon.
Everyone seems pleased about the railroad bridge painting. Now that the paint has completely dried, it is a welcome sight from the eyesore it once was. We should all thank Bob Panisiti, and his Paint Rite crew for their work on this positive change.
Tyrone has a positive problem right now. Currently, there are several new businesses about to arrive and open in the community. And there is an issue, where we might not have enough empty store fronts. I hope for both businesses that things will work out and that they arrive to serve the town.
It goes back to the great Streetscape project, and how it has made Tyrone look to prospective business owners. Tyrone Mayor Pat Stoner and Borough Council were right to do the project. I sometimes get bashed for my support of the mayor, but I will say it again, I have never met a better woman who strives so hard to make the town look great. She is a very special person, and we should thank her more for the work she has done and accomplished. I will continue to do so, for as long as I am here.
It has been a sad week with the funeral proceedings of President Ronald Reagan, and then singer Ray Charles. I remember Mr. Reagan so well, as he was the first president I ever voted for at the age of 18. I found him to be a great communicator, and charming to watch, while he handled the country’s business.
The Altoona Curve is on a great winning streak. And next month, it’s Tyrone Night at Blair County Ballpark. Tickets for this night remain on sale at the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce, the Tyrone News Agency, and other locations or from organizations. Currently, 400 out of 1,000 tickets have been sold. Let’s pack the place in orange and black.
I have learned a lot about myself in the past few weeks. I have really changed twice during my forty years. I stopped being a selfish jerk when my oldest son was tragically killed in 1998, and I became less trusting of people after my false arrest in Nashville a month ago.
But the one thing that hasn’t changed is my pride and my ego. And I’ve learned that it must change as I move on in my life. So at this point, I would like to publicly apologize to two former employees. I’m saying that I’m sorry to Greg Bock and Rob Carolus for my recent remarks. I wish both of them the best of luck in all that they do in their present and future careers. I was not told to do this, but felt it was the right thing to do. I’m deeply sorry that I defended myself and the newspaper, and that it hurt the two of you in any way.
I’m off to Lancaster, PA for the weekend. And then back on Monday to finish some special projects. I hope that everyone has a great weekend, and thanks again for reading.
