Last week, a representative of Congressman Bill Shuster appeared at the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library to hold office hours.
Her appearance is one of a number of ways the Ninth District congressman uses to stay in touch with his constituents.
He also holds townhall meetings on various issues to hear the concerns of district residents.
Next week, Shuster is planning a series of townhall meetings on Medicare issues, and one of those meetings will be held in Altoona.
“He’ll be in Huntingdon and Blair counties, Somerset, Chambersburg and Indiana next week,” said Shuster’s representative, Amy Hanna.
Hanna and Shuster spokesperson Christy Farmer indicated a release would be issued later this week, with exact date, time and location information on next week’s events.
Shuster will have the time to hold the meetings next week since Congress goes into recess ahead of the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
“Also, starting on July 26, for a solid two-and-a-half weeks, he will take to the road himself with staff,” explained Hanna. “We don’t have those locations yet. He will literally conduct (the office hours) himself, two hours per day (in each location) traveling to different towns.”
Hanna said he is expected to conduct satellite office hours in Tyrone during the extended recess period starting in late July.
During satellite office hours, Shuster and/or his representatives meet with individuals privately about their concerns. The time is also used to meet with the media and to make presentations to honor citizens from time to time.
In addition to his congressional offices in Washington, Shuster maintains regional offices with regular hours in Hollidaysburg, Chambersburg, Indiana and Somerset.
The Hollidaysburg office is located at 310 Penn Street, Suite 200. It can be reached by phone at 696-6318 or toll-free at 1-800-854-3035. The fax number is 696-6726.
Shuster also maintains a web site: www.house.gov/shuster.
