Roy E. Hampton, 80, of Grazierville died July 9, 2004 at 5:30 a.m. at his home.
He was born December 13, 1923 in Grazierville, a son of the late Roy M. and Sarah E. (Hetrick) Hampton. On September 17, 1948 at the Grazierville United Methodist Church he married Virginia Maisano Gault.
Surviving is his wife, a daughter Linda McFalls and husband Tim of Bellwood, a step-daughter Judith (Gault) Swayne and husband Gil of Bellwood, five grandchildren, Dennis Hughes of Altoona, Carmen Rightenour of Tipton, Lt. Col. Dan Swayne and wife Stacey of Columbia, S.C., Greg Swayne and wife Angela of Fayetteville, Georgia, Aileen Luke and husband Scott of Hanover, eight great-grandchildren, four sisters, Mary Bartlebaugh, Treva Bridges and Martha Hampton all of Grazierville, Mildred Bezilla of Kirtland, OH and a brother Wilson of Tyrone. He was preceded in death by a sister Marian Wilson and two brothers, Lester and Walter.
Mr. Hampton retired in 1984 from Conrail, Juniata as a car inspector following 34 years service. In his early years he worked as a carpenter and later for the DelGrosso family in the sauce plant and in the amusement park.
He was a life member of the Howard Gardner American Legion, Tyrone, Tyrone Elks No. 212, the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company and was a life member and past commander of the Anderson-Denny VFW, Tyrone. In addition he was a member of the Bellwood Eagles No. 1859, the Hub City Pup Tent, Cooties No. 82 and one of the founding members of the McIntyre Hunting Camp, Hoover’s Lane, Tyrone.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving from 1943-1946 as a staff Sergeant in Europe and the Pacific. He loved and enjoyed his grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 12, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Feller Memorial Home with Pastor Michelle Somerville officiating. Interment with veteran’s honors will follow at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood. Friends will be received at the Feller Memorial Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Elks memorial services will be held at the funeral home Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
