Most people would agree it\’s never too early to plan a great party.
That is exactly what the Tyrone Regional Arts Council is doing as they begin preparing for the group\’s twentieth season.
At the conclusion of this season, the Arts Council will have arranged 19 concerts, a children\’s theater production, exhibited the works of eight local artists and over thirty student artists, offered workshops in computer graphics, and filled downtown windows with animated holiday scenes.
The twentieth season hopes to see an increase in free summer concerts, workshop options, and support for children\’s theater. All of this activity could not occur, however, without the dedicated efforts of its members which is why the Council is currently looking for volunteers interested in planning for this special season.
“The planning groups are divided into three areas: concerts, gallery exhibits, and workshop options,” said Council President Steve Stoner.
“Meetings are limited to four times per year. Once a schedule is created, the members of that committee then share in overseeing portions of the season. It has always been our approach to draw on a person\’s knowledge and talents in such a way that they enjoy being involved in the committee.”
Individuals interested in assisting the Arts Council in one or more of the areas listed above may contact Stoner at 684-0405 or the Arts Line office at 684-ART2 for further information.
Planning groups are scheduled to begin meeting in September.
The Summer Sunday concert series begins at 6 p.m. at the Reservoir Park amphitheater this Sunday and is free of charge. In the event of rain, the concert will be held in St. Matthew\’s Hall on Cameron Avenue.
Les Shaw\’s Big Band is scheduled to take the stage. Comprised of 17 playing members, this collection of some of the area\’s best musicians will return the audience to the days of the Oriental Ballroom and swing dancing.
Also, downtown Tyrone will be rocking and rolling on Friday night, July 16, at 7:30 p.m. as the Youth Concert Series continues. Electric Blue, one of the premiere club bands in the area, will bring their high-powered performance to the M&T lot next to Joybeans.
Under the leadership of Tyrone native Shawn Johnson, Electric Blue is known for performing the best in rock and roll and music from the current music scene.
In the event of rain the concert will be held inside Joybeans Coffee Shop.
All concert programs are supported by a grant from the PA Council on the Arts, a state agency, the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, and Tyrone Borough.
