Big Band, Rock and Roll, and Gospel make up the musical banquet available to area residents this week as the Tyrone Regional Arts Council\’s summer concert series continues.
Summer Sundays resumes at Reservoir Park with the music of the 1930s, 40s and 50s when Les Shaw\’s Big Band takes the stage. Comprised of 17 playing members, this collection of some of the area\’s best musicians will return the audience to the days of the Oriental Ballroom and swing dancing.
Recreating the unique sound of Big Bands like Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, and Tommy Dorsey is the hallmark of Les Shaw\’s Big Band which has been performing since 1972.
The band\’s interpretation of some of the original arrangements are musically enjoyable for listening and for those that wish to dance under the trees.
Summer Sunday Concerts begin at 6 p.m. at the Reservoir Park amphitheater and are free of charge. In the event of rain, the concert will be held in St. Matthew\’s Hall on Cameron Avenue.
The Intown Tuesday concert program premieres on July 13 in Tyrone\’s Epworth Manor\’s air conditioned lobby with Windy Mountain Bluegrass Band.
This four-member band prides itself on staying true to the original sounds of bluegrass music with the use of acoustic guitars and stringed instruments without amplification. A perennial favorite at festivals throughout the area, Windy Mountain will offer an evening of toe tapping and hand clapping fun.
Performing with Windy Mountain are Bob Klink, Jean Klink, Jim Sefchick, and Norma Poullas.
The Intown Tuesday concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. in the air conditioned lobby of Epworth Manor on Washington Avenue.
Downtown Tyrone will be rocking and rolling on Friday night, July 16, as the Youth Concert Series continues. Electric Blue, one of the premiere club bands in our area, will bring their high powered performance to the M&T lot next to Joybeans.
Under the leadership of Tyrone native Shawn Johnson, Electric Blue is known for performing the best in rock and roll and music from the current music scene.
Youth Concerts are from 7:30 to 9 p.m. and are free of charge. In the event of rain the concert will be held inside Joybeans Coffee Shop.
All concert programs are supported by a grant from the PA Council on the Arts, a state agency, the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, and Tyrone Borough.
