The Tyrone junior high football team opened their 2004 season at Mansion Park on Thursday dropping a 22-0 decision to Roosevelt Junior High.
Jarryd Burket threw two touchdown passes to spark Roosevelt which scored single TDs in each of the last three quarters for the victory in the opener for both teams.
“We did pretty well in the first half,”said Tyrone head junior high coach Dan Plummer. The Little Eagles trailed just 6-0 at the halftime intermission. “We had most of our 125 total yards in the first half. Then in the second half, we made a lot of mistakes and penalties.
Overall, I was pleased by the results. This was probably the best we have looked against a team of Roosevelt’s caliber in the opening game of the season in several years. Wit6h this showing, I am encoruaged about the outlook for the coming conference season.”
Shayne Tate led Tyrone with seven carries for 65 yards, Josh Bradley added six carries for 27 yards and Mark Mingle had for totes for 21 yards.
Tate also completed a pair of passes to Dustin Rudasill, one for 25 yards and another for 20.
Tate had a pass interception, Brock Anders recorded two sacks, and Tyrone also recovered a fumble.
Tyrone (0-1) travels to Bellwood Memorial Stadium next Thursday (Sept. 9) for a game against the Bellwood-Antis junior high.
