The Bellwood-Antis junior high football team traveled to Houtzdale to play Moshannon Valley on Thursday evening.
The Little Blue Devils contined their improved second half of the season with a 14-0 shutout win over the Moshannon Valley junior high.
Bellwood-Antis scored once in each half to post the victory in a sloppily played game that included plenty of turnovers by both teams, that kept scoring to a minmum.
Bellwood-Antis kicked off to begin the contest, then held the Little Knights and forced a punt.
On the first play from scxrimmage, Brandon Eger took a toss sweep 51 yards for the touchdown. Tyler Lucas grabbed a two-point conversion pass from B-A quarterback Alan Wertz to give the Blue Devils an 8-0 lead. Eger finished with over 100 yartds rushing.
B-A again held the Valley squad, with Patick McCloskey coming up with an interception to stop the drive, but the Blue Devils gave it right back with a lost fumble.
Moshannon Valley took the opportunity and marched down the field to the BA-7 with a first and goal. The Bellwood-Antis defense dug in and held short of a TD and the Black Knights never seriously threatened again thanks to a greatr effort by the B-A defense.
Bellwood-Antis came out in the second half and dcrove inside the MV-20, but lost the ball on yet another fumble.
Finally, in the fourth quarter, the Blue Devils picked up a turnover and Justin Manning had his number called on a counter. Most of the Mo Valley defense went to the right, Manning cut back over his left to score a seven-yard touchdown to complete the scoring. Manning also had an interception and the Blue Devils recovered several fumbles.
“It was ugly, but we will take a win anytime we can,” said Bellwood-Antis coach Charlie Burch. “The defense is finally playing Bellwood-Antis football. The way we started off on offense, it looked like we were goingto dominate, but we kept shooting ourselves in the foot with turnovers.
“If we can play defense the way we have been doing after the bad start (0-3 after the opening three games), thyen we have a chance to get a win next week against a talented Bishop Guilfoyle junior high.”
Bellwood-Antis (3-4-1) will comclude their season by hosting BG on Thursday at 6 p.m.
