Juniata College was run over by Richard Jackson and King’s at Chuck Knox Stadium in Huntingdon on Saturday afternoon.
Jackson tied his own school record with four rushing touchdowns and caught a pass for a fifth score in King’s 48-10 thrashing of Juniata.
Jackson rushed for 170 yards on 29 carries in just three quarters and broke his own school record for touchdowns with 20 overall. He scored on nine and 10-yard rushes in the opening quarter, grabbed a 25-yard pass from quarterback Chris Barnic and plunged two yards for another score in the second stanza. Jackson came back with 22 seconds remaining in the third quarter to finish his day with TD number five.
Juniata fell tom 1-8 overall and 1-7n in the Middle Atlantic Conference, while King’s improved to 4-5 and 4-4.
Juniata got another strong rushing performance from sophomore tailback Duane Ehredt Jr. (Bellwood-Antis) who came just one yard short of rushing for 100 yards. Ehredt is averaging 100 yards rushing for the past five ballgames.
Despite Ehredt’s rushing effort, Juniata hurt themselves by turning the ball over five times to provide King’s with extra offensive chances, while limiting their own. Juniata netted 91 yards rushing.
Down 21-0, Juniata looked to get back into the game. Beginning from their own 20, the Eagles got a pair of Ehredt runs for 10 yards before quarterback Corey Doyle (Southern Huntingdon) connected on a pass to Paul Kozick (Dillsburg) for a 12-yard gain. Two plays later, it was Doyle and Kozick again combining for 10 yards and a rough-the-passer penalty against King’s tacked on another 15 yards. Doyle found Jason Koch (Kutztown) for 22 yards to the K-2. Two plays later, the same duo worked for the two-yard TD pass. Dan Heinlein (Bishop Carroll) booted the extra point to bring Juniata to 21-7 with 5:08 left in the first half.
Turnovers proved costly however as a fumble and interception led to two more King’s scores before halftime. Jackson plunged two yards for the first TD and Barnic found Matt Nicodemus for 32 yards for the other score.
Juniata cut into the 35-7 halftime lead early in the third period. Several strong runs by Ehredt helped move the ball to the King’s-11. Juniata couldn’t sustain the drive, but Heinlein booted a 25-yard field goal to cut the lead to 35-10.
King’s would come right back to answer that score however. Starting from their own 34, the Monarchs drove quickly down the field to score. Jackson raced over left tackle, broke a couple tackles, before finishing the six-play series with a 22-yard TD.
Defensively, Troy Beaver (Bellwood-Antis) led the Eagles with 12 tackles.
Juniata will complete their season on Saturday at home against FDU-Florham at 1 p.m.
