Melvin F. Hunter, 86, formerly of Ironsville and a resident of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home for the past 10 years died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004 at the home.
He was born March 4, 1918 in Tyrone, son of the late Howard F. and Clara Belle (Parks) Hunter. He married Betty Jane Rhoades on Jan. 5, 1947 in Tyrone.
Surviving is his wife, a resident of Beverly Hillview, Altoona; a daughter, Dana A. Baronner and husband David of Altoona; three grandchildren: Chesna Kyle, Erin Varner and Jeremy Baronner and two sisters, Louise Updike and Betty Brisbin, both of Tyrone.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Hunter retired in 1976 as a roll grinder at Westvaco, Tyrone following 38 years of service. He was a former member of the Grace Bible Church, Tyrone.
Mr. Hunter was a U. S. Army veteran of WWII, serving in the European Theatre as a tank driver with the 11th Armored Division. He was awarded four bronze stars.
Funeral services with veteran’s honors will be held Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004 at 1 p.m. at the Feller Memorial Home with Rev. C. Tim Miller officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park.
Friends will be received today at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from Noon until the time of the services.
