The Central PA Wolves conquered a long-time nemesis at Galactic Ice on Monday evening. The Wolves improve their record to 6-2-3 in league play and 8-4-3 overall, winning a 2-1 squeaker over Hollidaysburg. The Tigers fall to 10-3 on the season.
Of Central PA’s four losses-three of them have come to the Hollidaysburg Tigers squad, two of them in the 2004 Dean Patterson Little Stanley Cup Tournament including a 5-2 setback in the finals. The two teams also met in the 2003 Dean Patterson final with Hollidaysburg also claiming the victory.
On Monday, The two squads were tied 1-1 after the opening period.
Issac Fink (Bald Eagle Area) put in an unassisted goal to open the scoring with 9:40 to play in the first period and the Tiger’s Brian Koronowski tied the score with just 0:17 left on assists from Robertson and Donovan.
The game-winner came when Chris Carthew (Chestnut Ridge) scored with two and a half minutes played in the second period on assists from Kyle Hopkins (State College) and Craig Thompson (Spring Cove).
Neither team was able to score over the final 9:30 of the middle stanza, or the entire 12-minute third period.
Central PA managed only seven shots on goal, putting two in the net, while Wolves goal keeper Fred Dorman (Bellwood-Antis) stopped all but one of Hollidaysburg’s 34 shots.
The Central PA Varsity Wolves next regular season games are Thursday, January 20 at 8:10 p.m. vs. Bishop Guilfoyle at Galactic Ice (Wolves are Visitor) and Thursday, January 27 at 6:50 p.m. vs. Greensburg-Salem at Galactic Ice (Wolves are Home)
