The Central PA Wolves Ice Hockey team continued their winning ways in the new year with their second straight win of 2005. The Wolves used a four-goal second period on Wednesday evening at Galactic Ice, to subdue the Indiana Blades 5-3.
Spring Cove’s Craig Thompson opened the scoring for Central PA with an assist from Bryan Carthew (Chestnut Ridge) just after the 10-minute mark of the opening period, but Indiana (3-8) scored once in the first period to tie the score and then opened the second stanza with another goal to take a 2-1 advantage.
Jamin Solensky, an eighth grader from Cambria Heights, tied the score on assists from Thompson and Andy Shoop (Spring Cove), only to have the Blades come back to retake the lead 25 seconds later.
That would be all the scoring by Indiana however, with Wolves goal keeper Fred Dorman (Bellwood-Antis) shutting out the Blades from that point on. Overall, Dorman stopped 21 of 24 shots on goal to pick up the win.
Although Indiana was done, the Wolves got hot. Thompson pushed in an unassisted score at the 7:16 mark and Chris Carthew (Chestnut Ridge) and Thompson scored again for his second straight hat trick of the new year to round out the scoring. Thompson and Gage Dunkle (Spring Cove) assisted on Chris Carthew’s goal.
Neither squad was able to score during the third period.
Thursday, January 20, Central PA will be the visitor at 8:10 p.m. against Bishop Guilfoyle at Galactic Ice.
