The Tyrone Area swim teams opened their dual meet season on Wednesday night by traveling to Ebensburg to battle Central Cambria.
The Tyrone boys team opened their season by defeating the Central Cambria 82-67 with the Nulton brothers winning four individual events. Brian Pearson added a pair of wins and the three Eagle swimmers combined with Chris Bradigan and Zac Yeaton to win the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.
Bradigan teamed up with the threesome on the winning 200 medley relay team and joined Yeaton and the Nulton brothers on the 200 free relay and added a second in the 50 freestyle and a third in the 100 freestyle. Yeaton led off the 200 free relay, swam an leg on the medley relay and was second in the 200 IM. Eric Nulton won the 100 butterfly and the 200 IM. Ethan Nulton, just a freshman began his high school career with wins in the 50 and 100 freestyle races and added the two relay events.
Brian Pearson won the 200 freestyle in addition to swimming a leg in the 200 medley. Matt Elder added a first in the 500 freestyle and second in the 200 free. Chris Closson was third in the 500 free and Matt Grimm third in the 100 fly.
Paige Black and Kelly Pearson both won a pair of events to lead the Lady Eagles, but although the Tyrone girls won eight events, lack of people on the roster led to Central Cambria getting points on second and third place finishes to enable the Lady Devils to defeat Tyrone in the opener for both squads.
Black won the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle and anchored the winning 200 free and 400 free relays. Pearson, a ninth grader, won the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke and was part of both winning relays as well.
Zoe Yeaton won the 100 freestyle, was third in the 100 breastroke and led off the two relays won by the Lady Eagles. Leah Cherry won the 500 freestyle, was third in the 200 free and completed the roster for both relay teams.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Krista Marlett, Ashley McManigal, Sarah Reitz and Amber Davis finished second behind the foursome of Tyrone teammates Yeaton, Cherry, Pearson and Black
Tyrone has just 10 girls on their roster and was forced to have no entrants in the 200 medley relay or 200 IM and just one contestant in the 100 fly, 500 free and 100 breaststroke.
