The Central PA Wolves Ice Hockey team ran into their worst nemesis on Monday evening at Galactic Ice. The Wolves fell behind Hollidaysburg 2-0 after one period. Central PA got one goal to slice the deficit in half, but had the roof fall in on them with the Tigers scoring the next five goals on the way to a 7-2 victory.
Hollidaysburg has been the class of the Altoona section of the CPIHA (Central Pennsylvania Ice Hockey Association), winning the section a year ago and defeating the Wolves two years in a row in the Dean Patterson Little Stanley Cup finals. Central PA drops to 3-2-2 (5-4-2 overall) with the loss, while Hollidaysburg improves to 4-1. The Tigers have given the Wolves three of their four overall losses (two in the Patterson tourney) to date.
Craig Thompson continued his hot hand with a second period score with assists from Andy Shoop and Josh Kennedy. Thompson, Shoop and Kennedy are all from the Spring Cove School District.
Central PA’s Issac Fink (Bald Eagle Area) added the final score of the game with a goal just under the two minute mark remaining in the final period with an assist by Thompson.
Wolves goal keeper Fred Dorman stopped 21 of 28 shots, while Central PA was held to just nine shots on goal by the Hollidaysburg defense with Jonathan Joseph stopping seven of nine shots
Central PA Varsity Wolves next regular league games are Thursday, December 23 at 6:50 p.m. vs. Bishop Guilfoyle at Galactic Ice with the Wolves acting as the home team and Monday, January 10 at 6:00 p.m. vs. Derry at Galactic Ice.
